Free alternative social media platform
LYKA is a free digital community for people to post photos and videos of their daily lives. However, it comes with a twist. This social network rewards you with Gems for each post you make and the interactions you receive on it, incentivizing users to engage with the content.
Become an influencer
Everybody posts on social media. Much of the content you’ll see on Facebook, Instagram, or even Twitter have to do with people’s interaction with businesses and brands, so the Things I Like Company Ltd. decided to take advantage of that tendency.
As the CEO explains, members can promote companies using LYKA, giving anybody the chance to become a brand ambassador.
Straightforward UI
The app design looks familiar to anybody who frequents social media. Content sits across a slick, dark-themed interface, with an easy-access search bar on top and various buttons that take you to the different parts of the platform.
Besides sharing your pics and videos, you can visit the LYKA marketplace, where you can use the Gems you earned to purchase items from companies collaborating with this social app.
Once you connect with people through the platform, text and video conversations are one tap away. There are also group chat and conference call options. However, although it looks slick, LYKA is still in its beta testing stage, making it slow and prone to crashing.
Earn by posting
Each action you take on an app comes with a set value. You earn Gems after signing up. More came after you verify your profile, post photos, videos, and get other users to like, comment, or share your content.
While you can’t directly withdraw Gems into cash, some brands accept contactless payments using this new currency. Plus, the items on the marketplace are yours for the taking, as long as you gather enough.
Our take
Overall, although an innovative concept, LYKA is yet to show its full potential. Besides the incentives, it still looks like just another social media platform, but with a stronger focus on marketing and community interaction.
Should you download it?
No, at least not while it is still in the beta testing stage. The bugs and crashes aren’t worth the Gems you’ll earn by using it.
