Social media for gamers
A nifty program that lets you add new friends and manage existing contacts in a chat list. It allows you to stay in contact with friends who play WoW, Overwatch, Hearthstone, and so many other titles.
Share game tips and keep in touch
A handy way to stay in the loop with gaming pals when you’re away from the computer.
With Blizzard Battle.net, you can create your own community of gaming friends. It’s a mobile version of the desktop application that lets you chat to friends and install new games.
Add friends in a variety of ways. Take their username, email address or gaming ID, and any of the former options will lead you to their profile. If they add you back, you’ll be able to see if they’re online. You can even keep up with your friends when you’re away from your computer. The chat feature works like any other messaging application. You can see your contact’s status and away message when they aren’t online. You can also see what games they’ve played recently on their profile.
Another feature is profile customization to reflect your gaming interests. Add some games you’ve played or are currently playing, and inspire your contacts to give them a try. If you’re looking for a new program to play, you can browse the recent games that your friends have been playing.
However, there are some drawbacks of Blizzard Battle.net. There is no option to download or install games that the desktop version offers unless there is a mobile equivalent of the game such as Hearthstone. This makes the app quite redundant, as it doesn’t offer much apart from a way to chat with gaming friends on the go.
The Blizzard Authenticator being separate is also a major issue. The Authenticator was designed to let you accept or decline login requests into your account from your mobile device as an additional layer of security. Nobody knows why these two apps were not combined, but it is a frustrating reality.
Where can you run this program?
This program is available on Android v.3 and above.
Is there a better alternative?
No. This application is specific to Blizzard, and because of this, you’re stuck with an app that is nothing more than an instant messenger for your friends.
Our take
Blizzard’s Battle.net is a promising program that could be majorly improved. The chat function is fine, but there needs to be more features to make it worth downloading.
Should you download it?
No. If you want to install new games or play games on the go, this isn’t the program for you.
