Free Video download app

If you’ve ever watched a video on YouTube or other social media sites and wished you could keep a copy for yourself, the free Snaptube app lets you do just that. With it, you can download video (and music) directly to your Android device.

Is Snaptube legal?

Legality is an obvious question when it comes to downloading copyrighted videos and music. There are plenty of similar apps to Snaptube, such as Videoder and Tubemate. However, the main difference is that over 50 sites support the Snaptube app. These include Facebook, DailyMotion, and more.

The Snaptube app is legal, but bear in mind anything you download must be for personal use. For example, you can’t download a video and then monetize it online. However, despite Snaptube being a Chinese app, YouTube downloads are not allowed in China or in the US.

How does the Snaptube app work?

Some video download apps and sites require you to paste a video link; Snaptube acts as a hub, so you can search for and download video from within the app. The home screen is divided into categories, including ‘For You,’ ‘Music,’ ‘Humor,’ ‘Love,’ and more.

Each section features popular clips to download. The ‘For You’ page also includes direct links to sites such as YouTube, Kwai, Tiktok, and LarkGame. Alternatively, you can use the built-in search function to find content.

Click on a video and you’ll see the ‘Share’ and ‘Download’ options. Videos can be shared directly to messaging services and social networks like Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, and more.

Additional features

The user interface runs the risk of being too cluttered, but luckily, there are links along the bottom to help with navigation. Alongside a ‘Home’ button, there’s (another) Youtube link, ‘My Files’ and ‘Me.’  ‘My Files’ takes you to the Snaptube app download folder, which also conveniently tells you how much space is left on your device. Expected settings involving notifications and playlists are included and there are also device management options. These include ‘Boost,’ ‘Clean,’ ‘App Manager,’ and even a VPN. It’s a little weird to find these tucked away inside the app, but they’re ultimately an unexpected bonus.

Our take

The Snaptube app only displays ads when you search for something. In our time with it, we didn’t notice anything unusual (like battery drain or device slowdown). Therefore, we can say with certainty that it’s safe to use.

Should you download it?

Yes. If you like to have copies of your favorite music videos or comedy clips, the Snaptube app is ideal. Just bear in mind which sites allow video downloads wherever you’re based.

  • Central hub for video downloads
  • Search function makes anything easy to find

  • UI is a bit cluttered
  • Some users may consider the additional features unnecessary
