Free TV streaming service
Samsung TV Plus is a free-of-charge, ad-supported TV content platform for Samsung smartphone users. It doesn’t require a subscription and features as many as 135 channels that play shows, movies, news, and sports content.
Packed with content
Samsung already has a streaming platform for its TVs, and now, it brought the same service to mobile devices. The app offers hours of free content from 135 sources, including breaking news coverage, TV shows, and even nine channels for children.
Users can also access Samsung’s original channel called the Movie Hub, which features blockbusters. If you don’t like any of the offered options, you can remove them through the settings, but you can’t add new ones yourself.
Easy to use
The seamless, modern design of this app comes with some handy options to facilitate your experience.
You can make a list of favorite channels to reach them more quickly, set watch reminders, or save a list for watching shows on-demand. Unfortunately, the interface is glitchy at times, and the shows can get choppy.
Limitations
You can only use Samsung TV Plus in 11 states on Samsung phones at the moment. Not all models have TV support, but only variants of Galaxy S10, S20, and Note 10 and 20.
Moreover, unlike Netflix or Hulu, this app has a classic TV design, with shows airing at specific times and featuring commercial breaks. It’s much less convenient in that regard, having you browse through the channels instead of finding the show by name.
Our take
Overall, even with the ads, this platform is a good option for a lot of people. All you need is internet access and the right phone to enjoy plenty of excellent content, a rarity for a free service. Still, it’s quite limited compared to all the options available today.
Should you download it?
Yes, if you don’t have a classic TV but miss the feeling of browsing through channels before settling down to watch a show. Otherwise, on-demand services or cable are much more accessible.
