Safe and secure chat for kids
This is an application where you have full control and can keep a close eye on conversations between your children and their buddies. Parents can check conversations and images sent between participants at any time.
Easy communication for children with friends
Messenger Kids gives children the freedom to chat with companions online using a WiFi connection.
Facebook saw a demand for a safe platform where kids can communicate with their friends and family near and far. Enter Messenger Kids, the application tailored to younger audiences that need a safe way to interact with friends online.
This app is targeted at children under 13 years of age, but as parents you need to decide if you are comfortable letting your children use this messaging tool.
A guardian with an existing Facebook account needs to log in to the Kids messaging system using their credentials. This gives the parent complete control over all contacts that are added by the child.
There is a feature parents can enable, whereby the child can add a contact. An agreed four-letter password is created and the kid can enter it when needed. Parents will immediately receive a message through their own messaging application, where they can approve the new contact.
There is a live video option that kids can use with approved contacts. It’s full of fun filters and effects, specifically created for younger age groups.
Parents and caregivers can set up the sleep-mode feature on the program. Once this sleep mode is activated, you will not be able to chat or use the app at all until the pre-programmed period has ended.
This sleep-mode feature is a great way to manage time spent chatting with friends. Children cannot delete any messages or photos received, so parents can always monitor all conversations on the account.
Where can you run this program?
This program works on various Android devices. The version may vary from device to device. It’s also available on iOS.
Is there a better alternative?
No. This is one of the safer methods for your young ones to make contact with friends and family, while knowing mom or dad has access to all the exchanges between parties at all times.
Our take
Parents can use this application to oversee conversations that their children engage in. The interface and overall usability are fantastic, but the features for surveillance are what stand out most.
Should you download it?
Yes. If you would like to safely introduce your kids to social media and the world of technology, this is a great place to start.
