Subscribe for more storage
Google has created a dedicated app for enhanced storage membership. When you sign up for extra storage through the app, you can use it to manage your plan and back up your Android device.
Nice to have but not necessary
This slightly complex app takes on the tasks of storage, back up, and Google account management.
Google One is essentially a service, and the accompanying app helps you to manage such service. What is good about the app is that it is an easy way to oversee your account, and view and change plan details within the app. Those changes can include sharing your storage plan with up to 5 family members.
There are several storage plans to choose from to suit your needs. As well as using the cloud-based storage for items on your Google account, the app lets you make a backup of your Android phone. There are a couple of nice bonus features that come with it as well. You can obtain member benefits, such as credits and discounts, and you can contact Google support team for help with various products and services.
While it is handy to be able to manage your storage plan, even with the bonus features, the app doesn’t fulfill many functions. It leaves you feeling like this should be a section of another app like Google Drive. It is quite difficult to get to grip with some of the tasks in the app, such as the backup function. This is also the area that is most prone to errors, with backup failures or incorrect information displaying.
Where can you run this program?
Google One requires Android 4.2 and above.
Is there a better alternative?
No. For managing your Google One storage, this app does the job and gives you some benefits.
Our take
This app is unnecessary and can be confusing. That being said, it does have some uses, such as plan management if you have bought more storage.
Should you download it?
Yes. If you want to back up your phone and have the option to manage storage from here, it will come in hand.
