Free image resizing tool for Windows

Fast Image Resizer is a free, lightweight program that performs the function promised in its name and not much else. The straightforward drag-and-drop interface lets you alter photo sizes and save them in several formats while maintaining the original quality settings.

Single-use program

Everybody resizes photos all the time. While the default Windows Photos tool on your PC can perform the task, it’s also nice to have a dedicated tool solely for this purpose.

That’s where this program comes into play. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t offer advanced editing capabilities like GIMP or Photoshop Express. Instead, it’s all about staying quick and light while dedicating itself to its primary task.

Straightforward UI

The app interface is quite plain, resembling Windows programs from older operating system versions. It consists of a small square, several buttons, and a drop-down menu. As such, it’s easy to use even for beginners.

To use it, pick a resolution from the nine preset options in the menu or type out a different one. Then, drag and drop your photo onto the empty field, and it’ll automatically launch the process.

The app can also rotate pictures and copy EXIF data from the source files. After the resizing, the program saves the new image as JPEG, JPG, BMP, or PNG in the folder you specify.

Free and lightweight

This program is 100% free to download and use. Since it’s a small software and not demanding on the system, you can carry it around on a USB stick to run it on any PC model as needed.

It’s compatible with all OS versions except for Windows 10, which doesn’t support the drag-and-drop functionality. It also works on Mac OS X 10.6.

Our take

Overall, Fast Image Resizer is a small, convenient tool, but it seems outdated in today’s world. Most programs perform these functions and add extra functionalities to the picture, making it difficult for this tool to stand out.

Should you download it?

No. Many other free programs can do much more than resize your images, and the stock Window's software already comes with the resizing feature.
