A classic with new ideas
In Tetris Royale, you compete in large-scale multiplayer to be the last to survive. Try to keep up and put your Tetris skills to the test.
Spin to win
This title puts a fun spin on the original game. It’s a decent concept, although it suffers from a few connection issues.
In case you didn’t know, Tetris is all about accommodating different shaped blocks to fill entire lines. Once these lines are completed, they’re removed and more blocks fall from above. This repeats until you fail to keep up, then it’s game over.
In this iteration, however, you’re doing this while competing with tons of other players. It’s not just about the high score; as you play, certain combinations will have a direct effect on other players’ gameplay. In a way, your success as you progress will be a detriment to everyone else. Although there’s a solo mode, the real fun is in the competitive gameplay in multiplayer. If battle royale isn’t your thing, there’s also another fun incentive. This is through a high scoreboard. You can even participate in daily tournaments
Despite all of its positives, there are a few quirks to keep in mind. There’s a steep learning curve, and you’re sure to find yourself struggling against other players. Also, connection issues are rampant. In any multiplayer game, this is something that should be fixed as soon as it’s identified. That’s not the case, though. There’s a lot of frustration that comes with a disconnect in the middle of one of your best matches.
Where can you run this program?
This title runs on iOS 12.1.2. It’s also available for Android phones and emulators that run on PC.
Is there a better alternative?
No. Tetris 99 employs the same concept, but Tetris Royale does a better job implementing it. Also, the connection issues are shared amongst all of the alternatives.
Tetris Royale is the type of game you jump into on a rainy afternoon. There’s a lot of fun to be had, just remember that your WiFi is fine and that any disconnects are due to the app itself.
Should you download it?
Yes. If you want a reinvented version of this classic title, you’re looking in the right place.
