Easy setup

Many people lack video call hardware on their PCs. DroidCam bridges the gap, letting you automatically route the video from your smartphone camera, including sound, to a chat app running in Windows. Plus, unlike SparkoCam, it doesn’t add a watermark over the video.

The setup requires you to get two free apps, one on your tablet or phone and one on your PC through your desktop. Launch the Windows version and you’ll see a small pop-up window to connect via USB or Wi-Fi. Exit your chat app before you begin the setup process. The program is 100% safe, but your other programs will only recognize it after a completed installation.

Straightforward interface

All you need to do now is reopen the chat platform. The video and microphone in-app features will now include a ‘DroidCam’ option. Click on it, and you’re ready to get started. The app interface is logical but a little outdated. Two boxes let you share video and audio from your portable device with a single click on each.

Easier webcam use

Unfortunately, like other free alternatives, including iVCam, DroidCam sometimes displays ads as you’re using it. While they can be annoying, they’re not detrimental to any of the app’s functionality. The app is all about ease of use and flexibility for the user. 

DroidCam is compatible with a wide array of platforms and all the latest Windows versions. The usage time is unlimited in the free version too. However, the premium version unlocks zoom, brightness and contrast adjustments, higher definition, and autofocus capabilities.

Our take

Overall, DroidCam performs its primary task well, even if you only use the free version. The ads don’t take much away from the experience but if you don’t want them, you can purchase the premium version.
