Erase unnecessary Windows programs
While Windows has an in-built software removal tool it does not always remove programs in their entirety. Over time these ‘missed files’ accumulate and can slow down your computer, as well as take up space. They can be a pain to locate and uninstall. Revo Uninstaller will locate all the files associated with the selected program and remove them completely.
An efficient uninstaller with extra tools up its sleeve
Revo Uninstaller can speed up your PC and save space with its comprehensive uninstalling tool
This handy software automatically lists all your programs so you can scroll to find the one your looking for or use its search box. You can also activate “Hunter Mode” which lets you select and uninstall the program from the desktop. Did you accidentally uninstall something important? Use Backup Manager which allows you to recover the deleted program.
Revo Uninstaller also provides you with shortcuts to many of your computer’s system maintenance tools (such as disk defragmentation). You can also tune up your PC with tools such as Junk Files Cleaner and AutoRun Manager.
Downloading Revo Uninstaller is quick and easy. If you don’t want to fork out for the premium version, there is a free version which contains many of the same tools. The program is straightforward to download and install. You don’t need to transfer your applications into this software one by one. As soon as you open the program, it will automatically scan your computer and create a list of its applications.
The design of the program is a little dated but it suits the job. You don’t want anything overly complicated when you’re trying to work through your PC admin. Your various apps fill up Revo Uninstaller’s landing page and it (“Uninstaller”) is the first tab of ten to choose from. From left to right, the subsequent nine tabs are Windows Apps, Tools, Hunter Mode, Options, Uninstall (simply a command button to uninstall a selected program), Refresh, View, Help, and Upgrade to Pro.
The first four tabs hold the most features with the most important being the first “Uninstaller” tab, of course. Again, using the Uninstaller tool is intuitive and every step of the uninstall process is clearly signposted. After choosing the program to uninstall, Revo Uninstaller will create a backup so you can restore the program later. You will be given the option to search your computer for files associated to the program with either a “Safe”, “Moderate” or “Advanced” (basic to full) scan. You can select the program you wish to uninstall from the list or using the search box on the “Uninstaller” tab. Alternatively, by clicking on the “Hunter Mode” tab you can select the program from the desktop. The scan works well at rooting out whichever program you want to get rid of, although it can take a while to carry out.
The Windows Apps tab group all of your Windows apps together. Many of these will be preinstalled Windows software so be sure of what you’re uninstalling here! The “Tools” tabs opens up a selection of tools to help optimize your computer. These tools include Autorun Manager, Junk Files Cleaner, Windows Tools, Browser Cleaner, Microsoft Office Cleaner, Evidence Remover and Recoverable Delete.
“Autorun Manager” allows you to choose which programs load when you startup your computer. This stops unwanted programs using up your computer’s processing power. Junk Files Cleaner, Microsoft Office Cleaner and Evidence Remover all help to remove unnecessary files from your computer. “Windows Tools” provides you with shortcuts to your computer’s system maintenance tools to save you from too much clicking around. Finally, “Recoverable Delete” allows you to restore programs you have uninstalled. Equally, you can permanently delete saved backups, if you are sure you won’t need them.
Where can you run this program?
This software is only compatible with Windows (all 32-bit and 64-bit versions). A similar tool is also available for Android users, although it would be wise to treat this as a completely different program. Such different operating systems would require the software itself to be written and designed differently.
Revo Uninstaller is available on Windows computers and their Android counterpart (“Revo Uninstaller Mobile”) is solely for Android phones. Revo Uninstaller Mobile has far fewer features, although its main function remains the same. Unfortunately, there are no available versions for Linux or Apple users but there are comparable software solutions for other platforms.
Is there a better alternative?
While Revo Uninstaller ticks many boxes there are some notable drawbacks to this software. The cost of the pro version may put you off the idea. As a result, you’ll have to go without certain features. The biggest loss would be realtime monitoring of system and registry logs and uninstalling multiple programs simultaneously. You may find Revo Uninstaller is often slow to perform the task.
A popular alternative is IOBit Uninstaller and this outperforms Revo Uninstaller. You can remove programs (including bundled programs) in one click which makes it much easier. It allows you to identify malicious toolbars and plugins. It also reminds you of available updates for all your software and more. Comodo Programs Manager is another big competitor but for overall experience and value, the IOBit Uninstaller is a sound choice.
Our take
Revo Uninstaller is a far superior uninstaller software to the Windows program removal tool. It’s really useful and timesaving to have all your PC tuning software in the same space. Without that, it’s easy to let some optimization tasks go and this can adversely affect the health of your PC. The pro version certainly has some useful extra features but this investment wouldn’t make sense for everyone. Unless you are often uninstalling multiple programs simultaneously it may not make sense. The free version may be a better option and it still has the bulk of features contained within it.
Should you download it?
No. While this is a great bit of software and is a huge improvement on the default Windows uninstaller, IOBit Uninstaller currently has a better premium and free version on offer. It’s a little easier to use and has some extra features which gives it the edge over Revo Uninstaller.
