Free server management tool
The Minecraft Server download is a free tool for MC players that lets you host a server through your computer. The utility is only compatible with Minecraft: Java Edition and won’t work for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. There are many tutorials online that will teach you how to set up and manage this tool's problematic aspects.
Play with friends online
Setting up your own Minecraft world to play on with friends is a great way to pass the time and enjoy the game. You won't need to manage a friend list since all they need to join your game is your IP address. You may experience lag if your PC can’t handle the 1 GB RAM requirement. With some research, you can learn to add mods and plugins to your server, changing how you and your friends play.
Limited
The Minecraft Server doesn't include any mods or plugins that enhance your gameplay. To install any additional items, you’ll need to watch tutorials and ensure your friends have the necessary mods. However, learning to set up plugins is an excellent idea if you want to create an official MC server that can earn money.
No snapshot support
Minecraft Server supports the latest versions of the game and older. This selection ranges from 1.1 to 1.7.10 to 1.16.5 and further, including the Minecraft Caves update. However, the tool doesn’t have any way to run a server for one of the many pre-update snapshots.
Only for Java
MC Server is a tool only usable for the Java edition of Minecraft, the oldest option for playing the game. This limitation is unfortunate as the Bedrock edition has many players who either have to pay for server hosting or purchase a realm.
Our take
The Minecraft Server tool is useful but complex to set up, letting you create a private server on your computer. Using this method will require additional tools such as Spigot and PaperMC if you want to add plugins. Overall, this tool is useful and a cheaper alternative to purchasing a Minecraft Realms pass.
Should you download it?
Yes. If you have Minecraft and want to play with your friends, setting up a server is a free way to enjoy various game modes.
