A social network app for video chatting
Many video messaging apps exist on the market, but Houseparty shines through with its free support of group calls for up to eight people and extra features to turn that call into a real party.
Fun, social video chat
Houseparty is an app built with socializing in mind, designed to be easy and smooth, with a plethora of extras to keep you having fun.
Once you download Houseparty, the first thing you'll see is your face from the selfie camera. Using the plus icon on the top right corner of your screen, you can find your contacts and assort them in groups. You may create a group call house party for each of your chats.
The dice icon is a quick link to the games available on the application, including Quick Draw, Heads Up, Trivia, and more. Tap on any, invite friends to play with, and enjoy.
The UI emphasizes ease of use. For example, joining a group chat is as simple as tapping a box, and all recent 'House Parties' stay in a list for easy access. The search bar is straightforward and handy, too, and Houseparty synchronizes your contacts from your other social media accounts.
During the call, you can use the wave icon next to a friend's name to get their attention, or tap the phone icon to start the video chat.
Communication doesn't stop when a call ends, though. The app also enables you to send video messages, which they call 'Facemails'. Do so, and your recording will play when your friend opens the app the next time.
Where can you run this program?
Houseparty requires iOS 9.0 or later, and it’s also compatible with your iPad and iPad touch. From an Android device, you’ll need operating system version 9.0, and from a Mac, OS X 10.11 or later.
Is there a better alternative?
No, if you’re looking for an all-in-one package of fun tools to enjoy with your friends. The most popular alternatives such as Zoom and FaceTime support more people and glitch much less, but don’t come with so many extras, either.
Our take
Houseparty is more interesting than other, more traditional video chat apps. Plus, it’s super easy to use, further facilitating communication between friends.
Should you download it?
Yes, if you’re dissatisfied with your current video chat solution. You’ll get to enjoy a streamlined, easy application to keep in touch. However, if you want to talk to more than eight people at once, look elsewhere.
