CrowsNest Card Game is a partnership card game for 4 players, where the "We" team competes against the "They" team. Developed by Bradley Johansen, this game is a favorite version of Rook with some strategic exceptions. The objective is to achieve the bid and capture the most points. The game features different versions of the classic Rook game, including Tournament Rook, Partnership Rook, 1-High Partnership, The Red 1, and Buckeye. CrowsNest is the default version and is identical to Kentucky Discard, with the Crow card being the lowest trump and the declarer's team receiving the bid amount when achieved.
The CrowsNest card deck consists of 4 suits with cards numbered 5 through 14. Each suit has counters worth 5, 10, and 14 points, along with the Crow card worth 20 points. The total points in the deck are 120 (or 100 if the Crow card is removed). The game follows a bidding process where players commit to capturing a certain number of points. The highest bidder becomes the declarer and adds the Nest cards to their hand, discarding any excess cards. The declarer also chooses the trump suit for the hand. During gameplay, players must follow the lead suit if they have it, with the Crow card being playable at any time. The highest card in the lead suit wins the trick, unless a trump card has been played. After all cards have been played, points are tallied, and the team that achieved or exceeded the bid receives points.
