The YTD Video Downloader is a free program used to download videos to your computer, straight from your browser. It can download your videos as both MP3 and MP4 files and convert videos from one file format to many others, such as MKV, M4A, AVI, and more.

How YTD works

YTD is a simple program to download; you can start it up right after it’s installed without trouble—compared to some other programs, like 4K Video Downloader, which require you to restart your computer before using them. 

Starting the program will open a small window for you to access YTD Video Downloader’s tabs and various functions, such as the file converter or YTD’s own media player. To use it, copy the URL of your chosen video and paste it into YTD to download. The program also has its own premium service, which offers users faster download speeds and the option to download multiple videos at once.

Common concerns

As with free software that you can easily download from the internet, users worry about the YTD program’s legitimacy and whether or not the video downloader will harm their computers. 

The YTD downloader isn’t a virus and won’t damage your computer. However, some users consider YTD to be a form of malware because of PUPs (potentially unwanted programs) that can get installed along with it. PUPs can also be used to generate targeted advertisements, so these can be seen as a form of spyware as well. 

Performance

YTD Video Downloader is designed for both PC and Mac, and currently, there aren’t any versions for Android or iPhone.

Using the YTD downloader is a seamless experience. You can easily find the program, download it with a few clicks, and start using it after right away. Despite being advertised as a free video downloader, you can’t download videos off of Youtube without YTD Pro.

Our take

YTD developed its video downloader with plenty of focus. But ultimately, it falls short. 

We weren’t able to use YTD to download videos from websites after the first try. But, after reinstalling the program, we were able to download videos from Vimeo.

Should I download it?

No. Being unable to download videos from YouTube without YTD Pro (compared to most free alternatives like Freemaker, YouTube to MP3, or even 4K Video Downloader, that all function on Windows 10) make YTD Video Downloader tough to recommend.
