Spaceteam: Free Co-op Shouting Game About Spaceships
Spaceteam is a free-to-play local cooperative multiplayer mobile game that gets you hilariously shouting silly words with your friends and family. Developed by Henry Smith of Sleeping Beasts Games in 2012, Spaceteam pits you and your spaceship crew of up to 2-8 players in time-critical missions, where you have to make sure your spaceship gets to fly away from a deadly supernova. The only way to do so is by reading out loud the instructions on your screen and getting other players to follow it on their own device.
Spaceteam is pretty easy when you think about its concept: it’s a game entirely dependent on teamwork. However, it can get pretty complicated as well, since you have to mind the supernova slowly creeping after your ship and compete with your teammates’ own voices to be heard. When you start off the game, you can connect with up to 8 devices in local co-op—either via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Spaceteam, fortunately, supports cross-platform play when you use Wi-Fi, so iOS and Android users can easily party up together.
Once the level starts, each device will display various panels of different names and methods of interaction to activate them. You will see some dials to turn and sliders to set, and they all have funny technobabble names that will sound weird when said out loud. On top of your panel will be an instruction for another player, so you have to relay it while listening in if there’s an instruction for your own unique panel.
Once every instruction is cleared, your spaceship escapes and you enter a new level. Each level will progressively get harder and sometimes, you have to do special actions like shaking or tilting your device to survive an event. This is a game that’s guaranteed to get you shouting and laughing with your friends and family, so it’s highly recommended for parties.
