Automatically Mute Spotify Ads
Smutefy is a small menu bar application that automatically detects and mutes Spotify ads. It aims to reduce the intrusion of ads on your listening experience as much as possible. Unlike ad-blockers, Smutefy doesn't actually block the ads but instead reduces the volume when an ad comes on, ensuring that you don't hear it.
To use Smutefy, you'll need to have both Growl and Soundflower installed. While Smutefy doesn't block Spotify Growl ad popups, it uses both Growl and Soundflower to monitor the application and automatically adjust the volume when an ad plays.
Once you activate Smutefy by double-clicking on it in your Applications folder, it places a small icon in your menu bar. When an ad is detected, the icon will change color and mute the system sound until the ad finishes. The only minor issue is that the first second of an ad isn't muted, but it quickly kicks in and all you hear is silence instead of ads until the next track starts.
Smutefy is an ideal application for Spotify users who prefer silence over ads.
