Free multiplayer third-person shooter

Rogue Company is an online shooter game created by First Watch Games and distributed by Hi-Rez studios. Its scope of playable Rogues, cross-platform play, and several modes with different objectives made it explode in popularity over the months after its release.

Strategic gameplay

This game puts you in the shoes of top-tier soldiers from around the globe. You enter the match with your weapon of choice, competing against the other teams to perform various tasks.

Although a third-person game, Rogue Company incorporates many strategic elements of first-person shooters like Counter-Strike and Overwatch. A lot of what happens in-game hinges on your choice of soldier, weapon, and customization.

It also includes some characteristics of battle royale games, like the possibility of getting killed off from the round altogether. These features spice up the pacing, making it stand out from the competition.

Four different modes

You play Rogue Company in matches consisting of several rounds. You can use the cash that you earned from finishing assignments to purchase and upgrade weapons, bonuses, and hardware between battles.

It features four types of game rounds.

Extraction is a basic 4v4 mode, where your goal is to kill the entire other teams. Strikeout lets players respawn several times after being killed. You plant bombs in Demolition, while Partner moves the story to a 2v2 setting.

Each boasts quick and immersive gameplay, but some are more lenient than others, letting you choose the level of engagement.

Free across platforms

This game recently entered into open-beta, when it became free to play on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. You can still purchase the three available packs that feature some extras, though, and customize your character through in-game purchases.

Our take

Overall, Rogue Company is an exceptionally executed game. The elements of battle royale blend well with the shooter premise, and it transfers seamlessly on any screen. Even naming its drawbacks feels like nitpicking.

Should you download it?

Yes. If you’re a fan of shooters, this one is a must-try, especially now that you can play it 100% free of charge. Even if you’re not big on the genre, it’s an excellent way to get into it.
