An open-world western wonder
The first RDR was a welcome, refreshing title in a land of modern shooters. The western setting appealed to many games, so it’s no wonder that Rockstar returns with the second title. At long last, it comes to PC.
Explore with friends or tread alone
Red Dead Redemption 2 immerses you in an open world set in the wild west. Play the role of Arthur and follow an incredible story line.
This game puts you in the cowboy boots of an interesting character surrounded by unique personalities. It focuses on open-world exploration and a main quest chain. However, there are plenty of side missions to try out. Freedom is a major priority in this title.
The map feels alive. NPCs wander the world with purpose. They even speak amongst each other and engage in random activities. There’s a simulated economy that you can participate in. You can hunt, take bounty missions, and help citizens with other minute tasks. Whichever the case, there’s money in it for you and you can spend it on weaponry and other gear. This aspect of the game works really well. The sense of immersion is fantastic.
You don’t have to travel alone. You can play this game with your friends, and forma group of noble vigilantes or a gang of ruthless highwaymen that steal, murder, and hijack anything you come across. There’s also open-world pvp; you might just find yourself in a duel with a random player.
Sadly, this title forces you to play online multiplayer only. There’s no form of local co-op or versus available to let you join a friend sitting next to you. This also means that each friend will require a separate copy of the game.
There are some aggressive microtransactions that plague this game. The strategy is to limit your access to gold bars with normal gameplay and force you to spend money to afford in-game items that require these as a currency.
Where can you run this program?
RDR2 is available for Xbox 1, Playstation 4, and WIndows 7 and later.
Is there a better alternative?
No. This title packs action, story, and unique characters into one beautiful experience. If you’re looking for a different take on Western games, try the Call of Juarez series.
Our take
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a blast to play and will keep you occupied for hours. Immerse yourself in the role of a western protagonist in a wonderfully appropriate setting. Aside from the microtransactions, this is a top-notch experience.
Should you download it?
Yes. If you’re looking for a cowboy simulator with a great campaign, this is the game for you.
