Use Prizmo to Turn Your Digital Camera into an OCR Scanner
Prizmo is a user-friendly application that allows you to utilize your digital camera as an OCR scanner. With this program, you can easily scan and upload documents for storage or sending via email. Prizmo also offers Optical Character Recognition (OCR) capabilities, enabling you to search for text in your scanned documents, just like with a traditional OCR scanner. The process is simple: take a picture of your document, import it into Prizmo, select the desired text, adjust settings, and then drag and drop the OCR result onto your desktop.
However, there are a few drawbacks to consider. The OCR function in Prizmo is not always reliable, and the process of dragging text points to mark the desired area can be a bit awkward. Additionally, I found that the OCR function created a magnified version of the text, which was not searchable and did not appear in Spotlight. The effectiveness of the OCR function may depend on the quality of the original scan.
Overall, Prizmo produces convincing scans, but the OCR function may not always meet expectations.
