A flexible, CRM-style address book

Organizing various contacts on your phone can be a hassle. Open Contacts seeks to remedy that with its detailed tools that resemble customer relationship management.

Powerful but a bit too much

Open Contacts is a sync and management program that helps you tackle busy contact lists on your phone.

This contact manager comes packed with useful features. Unfortunately, though, the first aspect to notice is the lack of intuitiveness in its UI. This app requires work and even reading the Help file.

The interface resembles a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Its little windows contain dropdown menus that make it challenging to add information.

You add contacts through presets or manually. Either way, the layout presents you with four expanding fields that let you add as much info about the person or company as you wish.

There are many handy features in Open Contacts. You can call users on Skype from the program, cross-reference people and businesses,  and even open Google Maps by clicking an address.

This app is free to download and use. However, you'll need an older version of Windows and some patience to take advantage of its advanced features.

Where can you run this program?

You can run Open Contacts on older versions of Windows up to 7.

Is there a better alternative?

Yes. While Open Contacts is useful, the UI could be better. You could try Google Contacts, Cloze, or Kontact as they fare better in user-friendliness.

Our take

Although this app is quite powerful in its features, the user interface is a significant drawback. Moreover, it can be too much for an average user.

Should you download it?

Yes, if you need to store a lot of data on your contacts. Otherwise, you should go for a more straightforward alternative.
