The Halo franchise is a series of first-person shooters that take you across the galaxy to face alien hordes, the Covenant. It’s one of the most influential titles in gaming due to its campaign and multiplayer game modes.

One experience over many games

The Master Chief Collection brings together some of the greatest Halo games, telling the story of Spartan 117, the Master Chief.

One of the most iconic series available, Halo was originally an Xbox exclusive release of games created by Microsoft. Now, the entire story of Master Chief is available to play on your Windows desktop.

The only setback you’ll encounter is the system requirements. If you’re running a lower-end computer, this game isn’t likely to run well when you launch it.

However, the payoff for a better computer is incredible graphics. You’ll see details in up to 4K resolution. It comes with support for ultrawide monitors as well, so you won’t have to worry about display issues.

The Master Chief Collection begins with Halo: Reach, which tells the story of the fall of the planet Reach and the valiant efforts of Noble team. Combat Evolved is next in chronological order, where we pick up the story of our favorite Spartan, Master Chief. All told, this collection has 67 campaign missions.

That’s not all; Halo’s multiplayer is genre-defining and legendary. The collection has over 120 multiplayer maps, remastered and more beautiful than ever. Pick up a battle rifle and start taking out the other team.

Where can you run this program?

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available for 64-bit Windows 7, 8.1, and 10.

Is there a better alternative?

No. This collection has all of the Halo titles previously unreleased on PC. If you don’t like the mechanics, the Borderlands series is a great option with their role-playing progression system.

Our take

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is an amazing set of the greatest games from the series ported and enhanced for Windows.

Should you download it?

Yes. If you’re a fan of the Halo franchise and want to play the classics on your computer, then this is a must-have.
