Increase battery life on your MacBook Pro
gfxCardStatus is a program designed to help MacBook Pro users extend their battery life by manually selecting which graphics chipset to activate. MacBook Pros with nVidia graphics cards can drain the battery quickly when not in use, but gfxCardStatus allows users to choose between the nVidia and Intel graphics chipsets, maximizing power and saving battery life.
With a small icon in the menu bar, gfxCardStatus displays an "n" for nVidia or an "i" for the currently active Intel graphics chipset. Users can easily switch between the two chipsets using their mouse. By permanently disabling the nVidia card, users can expect a noticeable increase in battery life.
While it would be convenient if gfxCardStatus could automatically detect when to activate the nVidia graphics card, the program still provides users with the ability to manually extend their battery life.
