Give Geometry Dash a play from the comfort of your Android device. Take this wonderful adventure with you, wherever you go.

Dash through danger

Geometry and fun, this game has both. Push your square through the perilous journey to make it through each level.

Put your brain in gear with this puzzle inspired action-game. Your character is a square, and it’s up to you to help him (or her, honestly, it’s genderless) through a series of levels. There’s plenty of danger lurking around every corner, so make sure you’re extra vigilant. The best part of Geometry Dash is that, once you’ve purchased the app, there are no in-app purchases. This is great news for anyone who wants to enjoy the game without dishing out extra money on additional features.

Tap to jump over certain death and help your character land safely. Touching or landing on anything that isn’t solid ground will result in you losing a life. If you need to hop over several dangers, tap and hold to make your character jump repeatedly. There are a few other elements thrown in to make this easier. Glowing disks, for example, help you perform a mid-air leap. These special objects give levels more variation, and also make it possible to get through certain perils.

Time your moves with the music. A unique feature of this game is that the music is designed to help you work out a strategy for navigating the level. The beat of the music coincides with some dangers, such as spikes, moving up and down. Use the rhythm to ensure you make the right moves at the right time, and avoid letting your character die. The colorful graphics also give the game a fresh, clean feel. They are bright and make the game more exciting.

The game is challenging, and the developers know that. This is likely why there’s a practice mode, to help you get a feel for the controls and the way that the game works. You can play a few practice runs before you start making your way through the levels. It’s great for anyone who wants to get the gist of the game, instead of failing and starting over again several times in the campaign.

Create your own levels with the nifty Level Maker tool. It leaves the challenges in your hands. Make levels as hard as you want. You have the option to play them right then and there, or save your freshly created level for another time. Save as many levels as you want, and create many more. There’s no limit to your creativity.

It’s a shame that Geometry Dash doesn’t offer you the chance to share your custom levels with other players. There’s no community for players to upload and play each other’s creations. The gameplay becomes boring or repetitive after a while, so there should be the opportunity to play levels created by other players.

Another issue with the gameplay, is that the levels are incredibly hard. Each level requires patience, as your character will probably die a number of times before you make it to safety. This means starting over every time. Considering this game is aimed at children and teens, it doesn’t appeal in terms of how difficult it is. It’s probably too hard for most teens, and they’ll be frustrated after a few attempts.

Starting at the beginning each time you fall into danger is another feature that Geometry Dash could do without. There aren’t any checkpoints where you can save your place in the level to avoid starting from the beginning. The app will save your progress every time you exit, but you’ll have to play the level from the beginning if your character dies.

Where can you run this program?

You can play this game on Android 2.3.3 and above. There are other versions of Geometry Dash available for Windows and iOS.

Is there a better alternative?

No. The controls for Geometry Dash make it feel similar to Flappy Bird. This game involved tapping the screen to jump and keep your character afloat. Flappy Bird was discontinued though, and Geometry Dash offers more strategy, making it the better choice. If you want to play something like Geometry Dash, without having to purchase the game, try Crossy Road. It has a similar premise of getting your character across to safety, but it’s free to play.

Our take

Geometry Dash is a clever and addictive game. It involves strategy and is packed with plenty of action to keep you coming back for more. The gameplay could be improved with less challenging levels. It’s frustrating to keep starting the levels over and over. However, the Level Maker lets players create their own spaces and play these custom levels, as well. It’s a shame that there’s no option to play other custom maps, or share them in an online community within the game.

Should you download it?

Yes. If you’re looking for a challenging game that will keep you engaged for hours at a time, this is a great choice.
