Five Nights at Freddy’s AR swaps out the old two-dimensional style of previous iterations for the augmented reality approach. The new design and tweaks make for a more riveting experience.

An immersive horror title

FNAF AR is a unique take on the original concept. New items, characters, and a fresh interface swap make it a riveting experience.

This next step in the FNAF franchise tosses the old point-and-click format for a totally new playstyle. The AR technology takes the monsters and brings them straight into your living room. In fact, they follow you wherever you go. You can choose where and when to encounter these enemies for a quick match filled with terror and adrenaline.

These robots, while terrifying, aren’t the only creatures chasing you down. There are extra elements in this title. You encounter dark forces and shadows as well. There’s no need to fret, though, because you have your trusty flashlight and TASER with you for the ride. The FPS horror experience is great, and there are other new mechanics you can enjoy.

If you manage to disable an animatronic, you can reprogram it to defend you. If you need more robots to fight in your name, then you can collect parts and create your own. This is almost a necessity because some enemies can stealth. Your allies can detect and point these guys out for you.

One of the most prominent features is in the title of the game. The AR system works wonderfully. The visuals for your foes and interface coalesce well with any background you decide to play in. The realistic graphics provide an extra kick of adrenaline because your suspension of disbelief is seldom interrupted.

Where can you run this program?

Five Nights at Freddy’s AR runs on iOS 11.2 or later. It’s also available for Android 6.0 and later.

Is there a better alternative?

No. FNAF AR is a unique approach to the horror gaming genre. Games like dARK: Subject One are fun in short bursts. However, this title is still superior in terms of graphical quality and overall gameplay.

Our take

Five Nights throws you into a ton of frantic and frightening situations. It has impressive visuals and an easy to understand interface. The game mechanics are a bit different from previous iterations, though. All the same, it’s still a great title.
