Far Cry 3 is a first-person shooter and action-adventure game, developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft (Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs, For Honor). Far Cry 3 is the third main installment of the Far Cry series. Upon its release in late 2012, the game received critical acclaim, with much of the praise directed at its characters, gameplay, and storyline.

New storyline

In Far Cry 3, players take control of Jason Brody, who is on vacation with his friends to celebrate the achievements of Riley, his little brother, who has attained his pilot’s license. While on a skydiving trip, they accidentally land on a remote island inhabited by pirates and are then captured by pirate lord Vaas Montenegro. With the help of the island’s native Rakyat tribe, Jason escapes, but his friends are still in danger.

The story then follows Jason as he, with the help of the Rakyat tribe, takes on several missions to save his friends and leave the island, dealing with pirate lord Vaas all the while.

Improvements from Far Cry 2

While carefully considering some of the criticism that Far Cry 2 received, the developers decided which elements to keep in the game and which to remove. Level designs were made to be more fun, while improvements were made on the graphics, gameplay, and overall worldbuilding.

Our take

Far Cry 3 is an action-packed and emotionally gripping installment in the series. However, that doesn’t mean the game is perfect.

Much of the game’s criticism has been directed at its multiplayer and story narrative. While the cast was praised for their acting and characterization, many players and critics alike felt that the narrative was poorly presented. The main protagonist’s transformation felt sudden and forced, while some felt that the emphasis on drug use was unnecessary.

Should you download it?

Yes. Despite its flaws, Far Cry 3 is still a wonderful installment in the series, and is a must-play for fans. The game is also fun to play as a standalone, as it doesn’t tie in with any of its predecessors’ storylines.
