If you've recently switched to Mac from Windows, you might be missing that good old faithful Task Scheduler that automated tasks such as defragmenting and backups that you'd otherwise forget about. Surprisingly, Macs don't come with an equivalent tool although you can of course add a reminder into iCal. However, this isn't as effective as automatically instructing an application to launch when you want it to which is what Cronette does.

Cronette can be used on servers or also on regular Mac workstations to trigger tasks or applications on a regular basis. You can choose whether to launch tasks daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly and it can be used to launch just about any application. This includes everything from simply opening a document to launching an application or opening a URL in your browser. Of course, it can also be used to automatically shutdown, restart, or sleep your Mac which is useful if you've left it downloading or copying something for a certain amount of time. The interface is extremely simple and is accessible for even the most novice of Mac users. Anything that's carried out by Cronette is also recorded in its log so you know everything that it's carried out and when.

Simple, effective, and a breeze to use, Cronette is a simple task manager that means your Mac keeps working even when you're not.
