Free retro racing game
Car Racing Adventure is a free Windows racing game by AbsoLogix Technology. Mimicking retro arcade action on your desktop screen, it’s a straightforward yet challenging game to try and master. It runs in one mode only, offering an addictive, if short-lived, gameplay experience.
Surprisingly challenging
While not nearly as well-developed as F1 or Need for Speed, this game is a fun challenge to tackle.
The entire premise revolves around continuance, the specialty of racing through moving traffic and protecting your wheels from harm. It’s highly interactive, with fast cars surrounding you at every turn. Each crash damages your vehicle until it becomes moving wreckage.
You can fix the state of your broken automobile by rolling over collectibles scattered around the track. You might run into exciting speed boosts too. The goal is to finish the race as quickly as possible and avoid damage.
Straightforward mechanics
The game relies on a straightforward set of driving controls, counting on the traffic and action to keep you playing. You must move without colliding with trucks, road walls, and other cars. If you do, you’ll suffer from impact and see your health decrease.
You’ll use keyboard controls to navigate the road in Car Racing Adventure. Arrow keys let you steer forward, back, left, and right. The space key triggers the speed booster you collected. It’s all about honing your skills with these simple mechanics.
Retro design
Retro meets realistic in this game’s graphics. The track and other vehicles seem boxy but based on real environments. The selection of wheels at your disposal also uses actual car designs with accurate specifications and controls. Unfortunately, you won’t find many customization options. The gameplay mode, the street, your vehicle, and everything else remain the same.
Our take
Car Racing Adventure is an exciting little game, but it doesn’t bring much to the table. It can keep you busy for a while, but you’re not likely to return to it after the initial play-through.
Should you download it?
No. Although it can produce several hours of entertainment, there are much better racing titles for you to explore, even some free of charge.
