An MMORPG that is decades in the making
Uncharted Waters Origin is a trading sim and RPG. The game was developed by KOEI TECMO GAMES and built around a combination of related themes, like sailing and trading in the Age of Discovery. This ship simulator commemorates three decades of the Uncharted Waters saga. This includes games like Uncharted Waters: Episode Atlantis. Not to be confused with the Uncharted series, consisting of adventure games like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves, Uncharted Waters features real-world scenes, real-time trading, and naval battles.
Who can play it?
Available in English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified & Traditional Chinese, this open-world naval MMORPG comes with an age rating of 12+. Android and iOS users can play Uncharted Waters Origin remotely, as can PS4 & Xbox One console gamers and Windows owners. Though free, it comes with in-app purchases that can easily run in the hundreds.
What’s it about?
This game is about maritime trade, leading in naval combat, and investing to achieve wealth. The story takes place throughout the 16th century, seeking to emulate the sea battles of those days but waged on grids of tiles with turn-based mechanics. Players can trade food, drinks, flowers, household items, weapons, and ammo. They can save their earnings or invest them.
What’s special about it?
This sea trade sim comes with a scaled-downversion of the real world, a great range of weather conditions, and 4K graphics. Expect to find a host of historic figures, landmarks, and relics. Prices change in real time, the soundtrack features over 100 scores, and the casting includes veteran voice actors.
Open world for big fishes
This open-world RPG has a lot of perks, such as anime-style art, ATB land combat, and great character customizations. Still, its pricey gacha, the inability to control NPC ships, and the inclusion of depreciating assets that become worthless are serious snags in Uncharted Waters Origin.
