A free-to-play adventure title, "Summer Nightmare" immerses players in a deadly nightmare scenario. Developed by Team Summer Nightmare, this visual novel offers a supernatural horror experience involving a high school class entangled in mysterious deaths. The protagonist, Riel, accused of a massacre, must prove innocence by engaging in a hide-and-seek game with the enigmatic creature, Medusa. Reminiscent of survival horror games like Corpse Party, the game delves into a haunting narrative within a dreamlike setting.
Despite its name, "Summer Nightmare" offers a dark and gripping storyline where players must unravel clues, survive Medusa's attacks, and uncover the mystery behind their classmates' deaths. With four distinct endings, players face the challenge of surviving the deadly hide-and-seek game or being trapped in the nightmare indefinitely. Featuring stunning visuals with nine CG characters, over 55 illustrations, and 35 original backgrounds, the game provides a visually immersive experience. While the art style leans towards an anime-influenced design, the soundtracks and effects, though repetitive, enhance the overall atmosphere. However, the game falls short in character development, Medusa's portrayal, and the promised gore elements.
