Slime Rancher is a first-person (FPS) sandbox game about exploring and raising slimes. The game is set on an alien planet where the main character is a rancher. The main gameplay in Slime Rancher revolves around adventure and collecting slimes.
Slime Rancher’s core gameplay is sandbox style. There are quests, challenges, and other activities you can participate in while playing. However, there is no direct story tied to the player’s actions. The game tends to let the story take a backseat to the gameplay, which is focused on its charm and addictive quality.
The main objective of the rancher is to navigate an alien world to collect slimes and various resources. The slime rancher then sells these resources to expand the ranch, upgrade facilities, and upgrade equipment.
There are three game modes called Adventure, Casual, and Rush. There is no multiplayer of any sort, not even co-op.
Adventure mode is the standard mode of this app. Enemies called Tarr attack your slimes and even consume them. However, Casual Mode does not have Tarr and is an easier experience for players. Rush Mode is a time trial based where the rancher has 3-5 days to gain as much currency as possible.
The primary competitor for Slime Rancher is the game Stardew Valley. Both games share a similar casual playstyle of relaxation blended with customizability. The primary difference between the two is that Slime Rancher is a much more casual game. Stardew Valley can be played in short bursts and has a combat feel. Slime Rancher, on the other hand, is played in long sessions with minimal confrontations. Another similar game is Factorio, which is significantly more complex than both.
Slime Rancher is an affordable, casual experience. The game is a great calm, single-player experience. The story isn’t meant to move the player but more so the value is added to the experience.
