Paid brain punk anime RPG
Scarlet Nexus is a full anime RPG that follows two characters with separate but intertwining stories. The title is available for Windows PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles, but has a high system requirement on computers.
The anime-style gameplay is similar to Code Vein, Genshin Impact, and Tales of Arise, but features action-heavy combat. The tale of this game is a bizarre zombie apocalypse where they hunger for human brains. The narrative is fun and fits the action-packed world of Scarlet Nexus.
The story
Scarlet Nexus features a dual story mechanic that follows two separate characters. While the tales may intertwine, you’ll only see the story of the character you picked. This limitation creates an opportunity to replay the game, as you’ll see things from a new perspective.
The base storyline follows you as you battle against Others, a mutated species from the sky that hungers for human brains. To battle them, you’ll need to use psionic, a trait possessed by few people. You’ll act as humanity’s last line of defense.
Playing as both Yuito Sumeragi, an energetic recruit, and Kasane Randall, a mysterious scout, will show two sides of the world. There are bonds to discover and feats of heroism to accomplish in both characters' game quests.
Combat System
Scarlet Nexus uses a Kinetic Psychic Combat system. Through your psycho-kinetic abilities, the world surrounding you becomes a weapon that you can wield. Break and throw parts of the environment as you build combos. The overall style of combat is similar between characters, providing no disadvantage to picking either.
Beautiful graphics
The graphics in Scarlet Nexus are amazing, communicating both horror and wonder equally. You’ll travel through a ‘brain punk’ society and see the scattered signs and rundown buildings, wondering how it all came to be. Additionally, Bandai Namco has created beautiful battle attire, perfect for fighting in.
Our take
Overall, Scarlet Nexus is an excellent game with some replayability due to its dual story mechanic. The beautiful world of a ‘brain punk’ society is a sight to behold; however, it dramatically impacts the system requirements. Combat is flashy and feels robust, matching the world you’re fighting in.
