MyChart is a free app that lets you access your health records, communicate with doctors, and plan appointments. You can also check test results, pull data from Apple health devices and apps, pay medical bills, and more.

Healthcare in the palm of your hand

Although there are similar online health apps out there, like CVS and FollowMyHealth, they either only focus on pharmacies or have trouble keeping your information up-to-date. MyChart serves as an all-in-one app and lets you stay in touch with your family doctor, view and book appointments, and more.

More importantly, it keeps all your records current. Have you taken a vital blood test? Now, you don’t need to wait for a letter but can get the results delivered directly to the MyChart app. Plus, it lets you safely and securely share your medical information online, e.g., with a new doctor or family member.

How do you use it?

The app is available for free, but you’ll need to check with your healthcare provider to see if they support its use. The good news is that nearly 350 companies (mostly in the US) use MyChart. However, check with your healthcare organization as to which MyChart features they support. 

You’ll also need to create a MyChart account with your provider, which can be done in-app. Once completed, you can access your medical records, along with any other information your provider has made available.

Online health summary

One of the handiest features is the ability to get reports from your doctor after an appointment. Or, if you’ve been in the hospital, your clinical notes can sometimes be viewed. Plus, even if you use multiple medical organizations, the app compiles all the records into one place as long as the providers are all signed up to MyChart.

Our take

MyChart is more beneficial to anyone who has to make a regular doctor or hospital visits to keep on top of any test results and health information. Otherwise, it’s handy to have if you want to be updated on a sick relative or close friend.
