Free mobile casting app

The MirrorOp Receiver developed by Barco NV is a free app you'll need to cast your mobile device's screen to your computer monitor. If you've ever wanted to see what your favorite hyper-active game looks like on a larger screen, this is a miniature offering that does just that. Similar apps include AirDroid, Miracast Stream Mirroring, and AirParrot.

How do I get started?

This program involves a two-step process. You will need to download both the sender and receiver applications for you to cast between the device and monitor. Firstly decide which device will be sending and which will be receiving.

The receiver will be the device that accepts input from the sender. This means that if you want to view content from your Android phone or on your desktop monitor, you'll need the sender app. Once installed, they will need to be synced to transfer the images and audio between each device.

This automated process usually takes a few moments but manually syncing the apps requires adding the IP address and username. From that point, you'll be able to air-cast from the sender to the receiver.

Other casting-type apps

The best applications for you will be the ones that you feel most comfortable with. This means the interface, performance, support, and efficiency of the program must pass users' expectations.

AirDroid and Airparrot have a clean and user-friendly interface with good support and frequent updates.

Computer and Screen Streaming Mirroring are directed towards function and don't present very well visually. These programs do have support and can be swapped out for another as there are several options to choose from but with minor differences.

Our take

This airplay-type program is lightweight and offers the projection of your mobile device's screen onto your pc monitor effortlessly. Unfortunately, the developer has experienced a downturn in the maintenance of the program. This pushes the application down the list of necessary apps for your Android phone.

Should you download it?

No, do not download this application. There is a noticeable decrease in the performance of the Android device when using MirrorOp Receiver. Several developers have replicated the concept with varying levels of success. An ideal improvement will include being able to change the orientation to portrait.
