Dark Pictures - Little Hopefor Windows

The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of horror games exploring different genre elements. After the Man of Medan, Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco Entertainment released a sequel called Little Hope. It places five playable characters in an abandoned town in New England, exploring the infamous Witch Trials.

A chilling story

Little Hope puts you in the shoes of five stranded individuals stuck in a ‘Salem in 1692’ setting, looking to escape their predicaments. As you explore the town, you’ll witness various executions based on true stories. Your goal is to explore the town’s history, slowly getting engulfed in the evil that encompassed the place. The plot you uncover unveils excellent horror-mystery stories, and your choices affect how it ends. 

Interactive gameplay

This game tells its story from a third-person perspective. As you explore, you’ll make decisions in various dialogues, affecting how the narrative unfolds and the protagonists interact. Apart from the offline single-player mode, there are two multiplayer options. Shared Story lets two players cooperate online, while Movie Night enables up to five players to participate.

Little Hope has a replayable quality to it, as it comes with multiple endings. Your characters might all die or go out alive. The quick-time events are essential to action sequences and have a significant impact on the story. Unfortunately, though, they tend to be easy to read and resolve. 

Graphics & design

An eerie atmosphere greets you as you launch the game, and everything from the character design to the town looks realistic and frightening. However, the game environment is tense, but not as dreadful as some of the best-known genre titles, like Resident Evil or The Evil Within. Still, its interactive gameplay approach combines well with the visuals, creating an engaging storyline for you to follow. 

Our take

This game is an innovative twist to horror games, cleverly combining its various tropes into a gripping, although sometimes confusing, story. It looks fantastic and runs well, making it excellent for any genre buff.

Yes, especially if you enjoyed the series so far. Little Hope tells a gripping story that’ll keep you glued to your seat, even if the execution could’ve been smoother.
