CBS All Access is a subscription service that does what it says on the tin. Through the app, you get live CBS channels, movies, tv shows, and original content.
Competing in a tough market
An app that offers great features, but there are obstacles when it comes to accessing them.
For fans of CBS shows, the content on offer will be a big hit. The range of movies and tv shows is limited, but it’s a good way for you to get the original content that you like. Overall, the interface is clean and pleasant to look at, with ‘shows you watched’ and ‘continue watching’ lists available at a moments notice.
There’s a range of subscriptions available on this viewing service. On top of the basic subscription, you can opt for an ad-free version, and you can also add a premium network. This is a plus for watching on the go, but not particularly useful if you prefer to watch Showtime elsewhere.
The main issues with the app occur when it comes to the basic functions, which doesn’t bode well. Error messages when connecting to live content are common. Viewing existing content isn’t a smooth process either, with connection issues causing lag when starting a show. Syncing problems with the audio and visual content also occurs, which takes away from the enjoyment.
Despite the clean interface, navigating the app isn’t very intuitive. You can add shows to a list of things you want to watch, or remove shows that you’ve tried out and are not interested in. However, it feels clunky and uncomfortable.
Where can you run this program?
This app runs on Android 5.0 and above. It’s also available for iOS.
Is there a better alternative?
Yes. Netflix, Hulu or Prime Video can fulfil your entertainment needs. These apps pay more attention to detail and provide a more solid streaming experience.
CBS has a good range of subscriptions and some interesting original content, however, the means of delivery aren’t great. There’s a lot of work left to do before this app can be taken seriously.
Should you download it?
No. If you want a complete viewing experience on your phone, you’ll need to look elsewhere.
