Action-adventure role-playing game
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the newest addition to the popular Ubisoft franchise. This time, the game takes you all the way to the Viking age, letting you roam the open world of England during the tumultuous Dark Ages. It’s your task to defend your homestead against the turbulent warring factions of the new land while you journey across English land as well as parts of Norway and Vinland.
An epic tale
Like the God of War series and previous AC iterations such as Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, this title takes advantage of historical and mythological story elements in an open-world environment.
Valhalla recreates Dark Agents England, following the adventure of Evoir, a male or female Norse Viking, depending on your preference. You step in their shoes and start a grand adventure to take your tribe to England.
Once you arrive, you’ll create settlements, forge alliances, and tackle the factions of England’s four kingdoms you find there. The fantastic game design adds to the epic feeling of this narrative.
New gameplay elements
Valhalla revolves around direct combat, partly abandoning the series’ earlier focus on silent kill mechanics. It also introduces new customization features and options to manage your settlements and go on raids, giving you numerous choices for advancing the plot.
The combat system is immensely satisfying. You can switch between fight styles and develop your skill tree to grow your character’s power.
Cross-platform compatibility
This game remained single-player only, but it’s available on various platforms. Plus, although you can’t switch your progress from one device type to another, it boasts cross-gen compatibility, letting you continue playing after you upgrade to a newer model.
You can play it from your Windows PC, but it’s also available on Xbox and PlayStation. It takes advantage of next-gen console capabilities, too, with its stunning 4K graphics and smooth framerates.
Our take
Ubisoft outdid themselves with this game. It looks incredible, runs smoothly, and explores a much-desired theme of the Viking era, making it a must-play for any serious gamer.
Should you download it?
