Weaving code

Web design can be a challenge, and having the right tools makes it a far easier job. One such tool is Adobe Dreamweaver, a solution to having faster and easier coding within the suite.

Powerful and integrated

When it comes to professional web design, one powerful tool to keep in your arsenal is Adobe Dreamweaver.

Adobe Dreamweaver became a game changer for web development a while back. Even today it's a versatile program that provides you with a visual design surface and code editor.

The tools you'll find within this application are powerful. You'll be able to get started quickly and design some amazing web pages. You've got syntax editing, code completion, and code collapsing tools all at your disposal. If you've used Brackets, the code completion concept is similar.

The integration features on Adobe Dreamweaver are astounding. There's media integration that gives you the power to add images and videos to the web pages you're designing. It's all done with a few clicks inside the editor.

You've also got integration into Wordpress and Joomla! Since content management systems (CMSs) are the root of modern web design, this is important. You'll need these tools if you're working with affiliate sites, communities, or even just personal blogs.

There are a few noticeable downsides, the first of which you'll notice is the cluttered interface. It's similar to Photoshop, if you've ever used that, but it doesn't lend itself well to web design. Without tutorials, it's easy to get lost in a maze of windows and menus.

You'll also need to follow a few tutorials when you start as there is a learning curve involved when using this for the first time. All this is on top of the Creative Suite subscription you'll need in order to use Dreamweaver.

Where can you run this program?

You can run this program on Windows 7 or later and Mac OS v10.14 or higher.

Is there a better alternative?

No. In terms of powerful tools for professionals, there is no better 'what you see is what you get' software. There are, however, a few free alternatives such as Brackets, but they aren't as fully-featured as Dreamweaver.

Our take

Dreamweaver is a great tool for advanced users. It's also a great option for professionals.
