The ERG features an indexed list of dangerous goods, along with their associated ID numbers, general hazards, and recommended safety precautions. When faced with an overturned tractor-trailer or any other hazmat situation, emergency responders can use the guide to quickly identify the material involved and receive guidance on how to respond effectively.
The 2020 version of the ERG has undergone general revisions and reorganization, ensuring that the information is up-to-date and easily accessible. Additionally, the app now includes protective distance mapping updates and the ability to share data links through URLs. This valuable resource is updated every four years and is available free of charge to public safety agencies in all states and territories.
Partnering with the National Library of Medicine, PHMSA has made the ERG for iOS app available alongside the Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders (WISER) application.
